Lost Without Love
Why Loving God/Jesus is Critical to Salvation (Bible Verses & Notes)
Bible Verses and Notes:
Matthew 7:22-23 – These are Unsaved Believers.
Jesus will say, “ I Never Knew You - ”.
You may think you Know Jesus BUT does He KNOW You?
Jesus Loves You BUT do You Really Love Him?
Luke 13:23-28 – Another example Jesus says, “I Don’t Know You, depart from Me.”.
1 Corinthians 8:3 - God KNOWS everyone that LOVES Him.
2 Timothy 2:19 – The Lord KNOWS those that are His.
1 John 4:8 – If you don’t Love, you don’t know God because God is Love.
John 10:14 – Jesus Knows His Sheep and they Know Him.
John 10:27-30 – Jesus Knows His Sheep and no one can take them away from Him.
God Created us to KNOW Him and to LOVE Him:
John 17:3 – God created us to KNOW Him and Jesus Christ.
Matt 22:37-40 – God created us to LOVE Him (Heart, Soul & Mind).
Matthew 22:36-40 – Jesus said the First and the Greatest Commandment is to Love God with ALL Your Heart, with ALL Your Soul and with ALL Your Mind. Jesus said this the Number One Command! Don’t Miss this! Jesus didn’t say this is the GREATEST Command, keep working at it and one of these days before you die, you just might be able to achieve it! NO, He made it clear that not ONLY is this GOD’S GREATEST COMMAND, Jesus said it’s also the “FIRST” COMMAND! Why the FIRST? Because, if you don’t Love God FIRST, then NOTHING you ever do in God’s name or attempt to accomplish in your so called, “Christian Life” is going to be acceptable to God! What if you bought your wife some flowers on her birthday and you walked up to her as said, “Although I don’t Love you, the other guys in the office bought I still went out of my way to buy you some flowers”. You know I don’t Love you but I bought you some flowers This has got to come FIRST or nothing else in your “Christian Life”
What is Jesus talking about? The First Commandment isn’t to Love God with ALL Your Heart, with ALL Your Soul and with ALL Your Mind! The First Commandment is, “Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me”! And the second Commandment is not to love your neighbor as yourself – it’s to, “Make No Graven Image”!
Jesus wasn’t listing the commandments in numerical order, He was making a very important point. You see, the First 4 commandments deal with our relationship with God Himself. The second group, the following 6 commandments, deal with how we are to relate with our fellow human beings. So Loving God, will motivate us to follow the First 4 Commandments and Loving our Neighbors will motivate us to follow the last 6 Commandments. We need to Love God so we can Love our Neighbor.
Understand this – God Commands Every Man Everywhere to Repent -
Acts 17:30! Repentance is How we Get Saved! BUT, Jesus didn’t say the First and Greatest Commandment was to Repent! Jesus said the FIRST and Greatest Commandment was to Love God with ALL Your Heart, with ALL Your Soul and with ALL Your Mind! If God’s Commandment to Love Him is FIRST (and it is), Then Loving God has to come before Repentance!! Love God and then you can Repent!!
1 John 4:20 ESV
If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
Here’s the thing – Jesus told them exactly what He is telling us today – paraphrasing – “Here give me that Bible and I’ll sum everything up for you! I’ll make it real easy!! Let me sum up the Old Testament, Let me sum up the New Testament, Let me sum up the Whole Bible, Let me sum up God’s Purpose for you, let me sum up your whole existence! Love God with all your Heart, Soul and Mind and Love your Neighbor as Yourself !! That’s it!! Done!! Mic Drop!!
1 John 4:21 – Who ever loves God must also Love his brother.
Romans 5:5 – Where does the power come from to love Love your Neighbor as Yourself?
When you Love Jesus, you repent, you trust Jesus as your Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into your Heart and you are Born Again. Then the Holy Spirit who’s living in our hearts, spreads God’s love through us.
Yet, the Bible also says that God hates all workers of iniquity (see for example Ps. 5:5; 11:5b-6; Rom. 1:18ff; Jn. 3:36).
Matthew 10:37-38 – Jesus said if you love your Mother, Father, Son or Daughter more than Him is not worthy of Him and if you do not pick up your cross and follow after Him you are not worthy of Him. You see, that’s why God never commanded children to Repent. He commanded ALL MEN (men and women) to repent. You are expecting a lot from a young child to love an invisible man named Jesus that died more than 2,000 years ago more than they do their Mommy and Daddy. Even if they say they Love Jesus more, what depth of love are they actually talking about? And what does it mean to pick up their cross and follow Jesus or they are not worthy of Him? Can a child understand this?

or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7
